About

Mike Sullivan has over 30 years’ experience in the pensions and employee benefits industry.

He was Head of Employee Benefits and Pensions for an international utility company for 14 ½ years until mid-2013. During this time he worked closely with the employer and its overseas parent on strategic direction for the many acquired businesses and pension schemes and also guided the Trustee board – which at one time was Trustee to over 30 different pension arrangements.

Mike was instrumental in designing the award winning governance structure for the Trustee Company.

He also acted as Secretary to the Trustee for many years. His experience includes scheme mergers, numerous business sales, acquisitions, contract bids and corporate restructurings and fining pragmatic and cost efficient solutions to the many pension issues that flow from such activities. He is an experienced ringmaster in ensuring that the Trustee’s various advisers work together efficiently and effectively.

During this time Mike was also a Council member of the Pensions Management Institute for 10 years culminating in 1 year as Vice President followed by 2 years’ as President of the Institute. During his time as President he was instrumental in driving change through the organisation to improve risk management, accountability and job satisfaction. Mike is currently Chairman of the Institute’s Professional Standards Committee.

At other times in his career Mike has worked in administration, consulting and client management with a number of leading pensions consultancies providing a very rounded background which is reflected in his eye for detail, problem solution and engagement. He has a passion for pensions and has great concerns at the serious under-provision being made by large swathes of the population.
